BUZZ: Kevin Costner teases new Western project amid split from wife over career

Kevin Costner is promoting his new movie project amid his divorce from Christine Baumgartner, who allegedly had an issue with the actor’s intense work habits.

“We’re deep into the production of #HorizonFilm, and, I have to tell you, I haven’t felt this way about a movie since we were making ‘Dances With Wolves’,” the “Yellowstone” star captioned an Instagram photo on Wednesday while featured a director’s chair with “Horizon” printed on the fabric.

Costner’s estranged wife filed for divorce on May 2 after 18 years of marriage, which left the “Bodyguard” star “stunned,” a source tells Page Six.

“Kevin was very surprised by Christine’s actions, he obviously doesn’t want the divorce and he would take her back.”

Another insider told us that Baumgartner — who shares Cayden, 16, and Hayes, 14, and daughter Grace, 12 with Costner — was reportedly “unhappy” with the actor’s work habits surrounding his lead role in the Western series “Yellowstone,” which is set to end after its fifth season.

“During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her.”

The source also claimed that Costner was “obsessed” with directing, producing and starring in “Horizon” — which, notably, the actor is also personally financing under his production company Territory Pictures.

An additional insider familiar with the situation told us that Costner’s success in “Yellowstone” along with his new film “probably took his attention away from his family more than he realized.”

“Kevin hasn’t been home very much for quite some time due to filming, the popularity of ‘Yellowstone,’ and the time necessary for his other projects. He has been in demand,” referring to the Western series and his latest project.

Costner’s upcoming Western film — which was originally announced in January 2022 — is his first time in 20 years in the director’s chair since his 2003 directorial debut “Open Range.”

This isn’t the actor’s first time in the hot seat with marriages. Costner went through a hefty $80 million divorce in 1994 with ex-wife Cindy Silva, which allegedly ended due to serial cheating.

However, a longtime friend of Costner’s told us, “There was no issue of cheating at all.”

Cotster shares daughters Annie, 38, and Lily, 36, and son Joe, 34, with Silva, as well as son Liam, 27, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Rooney.
