Rosie O’Donnell recently spoke with Page Six about her friend Madonna and how she isn’t worried about the internet trolls who criticize the singer’s physical appearance. O’Donnell noted that Madonna has “never had a problem standing up for herself” and that she “knows who she is, what she wants, what she wants to look like, what she wants to wear, what she wants to say.”
O’Donnell recalled a time when she and Madonna were filming “A League of Their Own” and men in the elevator would comment on Madonna’s brown hair. She said, “And she would look at them and go, ‘You know, f–k you.’ And I thought, good for her, man, good for you.”
Madonna received a barrage of criticism online following her appearance at the Grammys in February. She clapped back online soon after, writing, “Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in. A world that refuses to celebrate women pass [sic] the age of 45 And feels the need to punish her If she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working, and adventurous.”
O’Donnell isn’t the only one to have Madonna’s back. Earlier this month, Debi Mazar defended Madonna in an exclusive Page Six interview, saying, “I don’t pay attention to any of it. I think Madonna is beautiful and I don’t pay attention to what people say about me or about anybody.”
O’Donnell also shared that she is in a good place right now and is grateful for her anti-depression and anxiety medication. She said, “I’m very much on top of it. And I have been since Columbine (school shooting), which is when I went on anti-depression and anxiety medication. And I’m very grateful that I have those medicines and that I take them religiously. I don’t ever skip a day. I’m on top of what I need in order to survive and thrive and be around for my family.”
