Dua Lipa won’t just star as a mermaid Barbie alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling‘s Barbie and Ken in the “Barbie” movie hitting theaters on July 21. The “Levitating” singer also recorded a new song for the film’s soundtrack, with a pink-themed music video to go along with it.

On May 22, Lipa announced on Instagram that her new “Barbie” single is called “Dance the Night,” captioning a video post, in part, “This Barbie has a song coming . . .” The snippet shows someone stepping out of a pair of pink, fluffy Barbie-esque high-heel slides and literally levitating on their tiptoes (because they’re a Barbie whose ankles can’t bend — get it?). Lipa then appears on the screen and blows a kiss to the camera before she sings, “Just come along for the ride.”

On May 25, fans were treated to another brief snippet of Lipa’s song via “Barbie”‘s official trailer. And just a few hours later, the full music video and track were released, and it’s guaranteed to get you in the “Barbie” mood. It’s a retro, disco tune reminiscent of Lipa’s 2020 album “Future Nostalgia,” with the opening lyrics setting the tone: “Baby, you can find me under the lights / Diamonds under my eyes.”

The video begins with Lipa walking into the set to run over new choreography when a giant disco ball falls from the ceiling and smashes. “This Barbie is making a music video” appears on screen as Lipa becomes a bona fide disco queen. Wearing metallic separates from her brand-new La Vacanza Versace collection, which debuted in Cannes earlier this week, she dances around a pink set, sits in a pink Cadillac car, and, at one point, dances on top of that fluffy pink Barbie slipper from the trailer. As the catchy tune wraps up, there is also a cameo from “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig.

“Dance the Night” is the first single to release from the “Barbie” soundtrack, which also features Lipa along with names like Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Haim, Lizzo, K-pop group Fifty Fifty, and, yes, even Gosling himself. The album will drop in full with the “Barbie” movie on July 21.
