Exploring the Legal Battle Behind Beyonce's Efforts to Trademark Blue Ivy's Name

Shortly after the birth of Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé and Jay-Z filed an application to trademark her name. However, they encountered an obstacle when Veronica Alexandra, the owner of Blue Ivy Events, a wedding planning business established in 2009, opposed the stars owning the name “Blue Ivy” as it would have overshadowed her business and potentially forced her to change the name of her company. After a judge ruled in Alexandra’s favor, allowing her to keep her original name for her wedding business, she shared with Rolling Stone that she was prepared to take legal action against both of them if necessary. Despite this, Beyonce and Jay-Z were still able to use the name “Blue Ivy” for non-event-related endeavors. Alexandra also revealed to BBC that she was open to selling the power couple the name, stating that it would be a classic American story worth projecting.
