Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Reflect on Sharing a Bank Account to Fund Auditions

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have come a long way since their early days of sharing an apartment and a joint bank account. In a recent episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” the two movie stars revealed that they had to be extremely frugal in order to make ends meet. “As long as one of us had money, we knew that the power wasn’t going to get shut off,” Damon said. He also shared that they had a strict budget, with only $10 allowed for arcade games and attempts to buy beer.

Despite the financial struggles, Damon and Affleck’s friendship has been essential in their success. The two met as children in Cambridge, MA, and their shared interest in acting brought them closer together in high school. After a few years of working as actors, they collaborated on the script for “Good Will Hunting,” which earned them both an Oscar. Since then, they have starred in several other movies together, including “Dogma,” “The Last Duel,” and the upcoming “Air,” which Affleck directed.

In a January 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Affleck expressed his gratitude for Damon’s support throughout the years. “This friendship has been essential and defining and so important to me in my life,” he said.

Here are the nine movies Damon and Affleck have appeared in together, in chronological order:
