"Mysterious Ghostface Masks Appear in Multiple Locations Ahead of Upcoming 'Scream 6' Film Release"

If you spot a mysterious figure in a mask that looks like they’re ready to kill you, don’t be alarmed – it’s likely just a promotional stunt for the upcoming movie “Scream 6”. The film is set to be released on March 10th and in the days leading up to its premiere, fans have seen the iconic Ghostface character in cities across the country. This isn’t some wave of movie-inspired copycats, it’s all part of a marketing campaign for the movie, as Variety has confirmed.

One of the first sightings of Ghostface was in Sonoma, California, as reported by KRON4 on February 27th. The first “Scream” movie was filmed near where the figure was spotted and the town’s community center, which is a block away, was used as Woodsboro High School. The person wearing the Ghostface mask told police that they had been hired by Paramount to promote the movie.

The official Ghostface Twitter account retweeted the news outlet’s photo and wrote, “I was just minding my business.” They also retweeted a roundup of photos from different locations shared by Pop Crave and wrote, “I’m watching you.”

This Ghostface marketing campaign is similar to another viral campaign that Paramount did last summer to promote the horror movie “Smile”. Actors were hired to smile menacingly in the front row at various MLB games.

The new “Scream 6” movie will take place in New York City, which is the first time the franchise has been set on the East Coast. Most of the surviving cast from “Scream 5” will be returning, including Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, and Mason Gooding. Courteney Cox will also be reprising her role as Gale Weathers and Hayden Panettiere will be returning as Kirby Reed for the first time. This will be the first film in the Scream franchise that won’t feature Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott.
