Prepare to head east, as it appears that the official location of season three of “The White Lotus” has been revealed. On March 27, Variety reported that the season will be set in Thailand, although reps for HBO have yet to respond to POPSUGAR’s request for comment. This news comes after Johnny Knoxville, the creator of “Reboot,” hinted in an interview with Vulture that the next season could take place in Tokyo, Japan.
Fans had long speculated that “The White Lotus” season three would take place somewhere in the east. The “Unpacking Episode 7” segment, which was released after the season two finale on December 11, 2022, gave a clue about the season’s location and theme. Showrunner Mike White explained that the first season highlighted money, while the second season focused on sex. He then suggested that the third season could be a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality.
Prior to the season two premiere on October 30, 2022, White also expressed interest in taking the show to Asia. When HBO renewed “The White Lotus” on November 18, 2022, they noted that the third installment would feature a new group of guests at another White Lotus property.
The first season of “The White Lotus” premiered in July 2021 and won 10 Emmys at the 2022 awards ceremony. Season two, which stars Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, Michael Imperioli, Meghann Fahy, Theo James, Haley Lu Richardson, and Tom Hollander, has already earned three wins out of its four 2023 Golden Globe nominations. Although HBO has yet to announce a release date for season three, it is likely to come out sometime later this year or early 2024.
