Rachel Weisz Reprises Dual Role in Modern Adaptation of David Cronenberg's "Dead Ringers"

Rachel Weisz will be playing the roles of two identical twin doctors in an adaptation of David Cronenberg’s movie “Dead Ringers” from the 1980s. On February 28th, Prime Video released the first teaser for the series, which is sure to be as bloody and disturbing as the original. The original movie follows the story of twin gynecologists, Jeremy Irons, who seduce their patients and fall in love with one of them. This leads to a rift between the brothers and ultimately has deadly consequences. The story is loosely based on the true story of Stewart and Cyril Marcus, two identical twin gynecologists who lost their licenses and were later found dead in one of their Manhattan apartments.

The series was created, written, and executive produced by Alice Birch, known for “Normal People” and “Succession,” and will be produced by Amazon Studios and Annapurna Television. Sue Naegle, Chief Content Officer of Annapurna Television, said that the series is a thrilling tale about ambition, self-interest, and the manipulation of power. Rachel Weisz’s depth as an actor makes her perfect for the role of the Mantle twins.

The series follows the Mantle sisters, two doctors who share everything including drugs, lovers, and a desire to do whatever it takes to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront. All six episodes of “Dead Ringers” will premiere on Prime Video on April 21.
