Recently, SZA’s songwriting has been the subject of much discussion on social media. However, her producer, Cody Fayne (aka ThankGod4Cody), attests to her skill with the pen. In a recent interview with POPSUGAR, Fayne opened up about working on SZA’s first two groundbreaking albums, “Ctrl” and “SOS,” and shared an insight into her creative process. According to Fayne, she wrote one of her biggest hits to date, “I Hate U,” in just 15 minutes. He went on to explain that she can “go in” and “hop on a mic and start freestyling and going line for line,” even bypassing writing out lyrics when she initially lays down a track.
Fayne believes SZA is in a league of her own, noting that her attention to detail in her writing and melodies is unparalleled. He says, “That’s really the biggest difference with her, just the attention to detail in the writing and the attention to detail in the melodies, and how hard she is on herself to make sure that what’s she doing is going to matter on a universal scale.” It’s clear that SZA has more than proved why she’s one of the most influential artists of this generation.
