ThankGod4Cody Discusses Producing SZA's Record-Breaking Single "She's So Cold" from "SOS" Album

Cody Jordan Fayne never expected that SZA’s album “Ctrl” would have such a major impact on his life in 2017. He was surprised to find himself waiting five years for the chance to work on her next album, “SOS.” The 31-year-old Grammy-nominated producer, born Cody Jordan Fayne, contributed to some of the biggest records on SZA’s debut album, including “Love Galore,” “Broken Clocks,” “The Weekend,” and “Wavy (Interlude).”

Fayne credits Isaiah Rashad, another Top Dawg Entertainment artist, for giving him his first big break. He met Rashad in Los Angeles through mutual friends and worked with him for years without any major success. But then he ran into SZA at a house in LA frequented by TDE artists and she heard one of his beats through the wall. This beat eventually became SZA’s song “Sobriety.” From there, Fayne and SZA kept running into each other and she eventually asked him to help her make more music.

The pair developed a strong connection and trust that led to Fayne producing seven out of the 23 tracks on “SOS,” including “Love Language,” “Conceited,” “I Hate U,” “Notice Me,” “Gone Girl,” “Seek and Destroy,” and “Too Late.” He also coproduced the song “Gone Girl” with Carter Lang, Emile Haynie, Jeff Bhasker, and Rob Bisel.

Fayne believes that the album will go down as one of the biggest albums by an artist ever. It has already enjoyed a 10-week streak on the Billboard 200, one of the longest runs for an album by a woman in nearly seven years. SZA is currently touring the album and is set to release a deluxe version of it soon.
