The Potential Outcomes for Shauna's Baby on the TV Show "Yellowjackets"

In the first season of “Yellowjackets,” fans were left shocked when they discovered Shauna (played by Sophie Nélisse as a teen and Melanie Lynskey as an adult) was pregnant while trapped in the woods with her teammates. It was revealed that she had multiple sexual encounters with Jeff (Warren Kole as an adult), her best friend Jackie’s (Ella Purnell) boyfriend, before they left for the trip to nationals. In the present day, Shauna and Jeff are married and have a teenage daughter, Callie (Sarah Desjardins), who was born in 2004. This means that the baby Shauna is pregnant with in the woods in 1996 is not Callie. With the rescue taking 19 months, it is assumed that Shauna was no longer pregnant when they were finally saved.

The show’s cast has addressed the question of what happened to the baby, with Tawny Cypress (who plays adult Taissa) confirming that no one will eat the baby. Jonathan Lisco, co-showrunner, added that if they do their jobs right, eating a person won’t be the most transgressive thing the young women do in the wilderness. Fans have speculated that Shauna may have experienced a pregnancy loss due to her malnourishment, stress, and lack of prenatal care. Others have theorized that she may have given the baby up for adoption or that it was taken away from her. Some viewers have even suggested that the baby could be used by the Antler Queen (Lottie, played by Courtney Eaton as a teen and Simone Kessell as an adult) as a sacrifice to the forest.

The fate of Shauna’s baby will be revealed in season two of “Yellowjackets,” which streams on Friday, March 24th and airs on Sunday, March 26th on Showtime.
