Leading a delegation from the Communist Party of China (CPC), Wang Huning, head of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), will attend the respect-paying ceremony for the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), Nguyen Phu Trong.
An official announcement was made on July 24 by Hu Zhaoming, spokesperson for the CPC Central Committee’s International Liaison Department.
Huning, acting as the special representative of Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, will head the CPC delegation at the respect-paying ceremony for General Secretary Trong in Hanoi from July 25 to July 26.
On July 23, the Japanese government disclosed that former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga would be present at the state funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Suga, a prominent figure in Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, currently serves as an advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance.
Furthermore, on July 23, New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade revealed that former Deputy Prime Minister Don McKinnon will be dispatched to Vietnam this week as New Zealand’s special representative to attend the state funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Winston Peters, New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, stated: “To honor the significant contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to New Zealand-Vietnam relations, Don McKinnon is set to travel to Hanoi this week as the government’s special envoy for the funeral. This gesture underscores New Zealand’s deep respect for the Vietnamese people and government.”
The European Union (EU) delegation in Vietnam also confirmed that Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, is expected to be in Hanoi the following day to attend the state funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
