In a report by Xinhua, it was mentioned that General Secretary and President To Lam would embark on a state visit to China from August 18-20 following an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping. The agenda includes discussions with high-ranking Chinese officials like President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, and Wang Huning.

The visit is seen as a crucial step in implementing agreements made during Xi Jinping’s previous visit to Vietnam in December, highlighting the significance both countries place on their relationship.

China aims to strengthen the friendship and cooperation with Vietnam, furthering the development of both nations while contributing to peace and stability in the region and worldwide.

The Global Times also noted that Mr. To Lam’s visit reinforces Vietnam’s consistent diplomatic stance, aligning with the core interests of both countries, with potential benefits for regional and global peace and development.

Building on longstanding ties, geographic proximity, and mutual support, the visit is anticipated to elevate the Vietnam-China partnership, assisting in their mutual paths towards modernization and economic growth.

Mr. To Lam is expected to continue the foreign policy framework initiated by the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, emphasizing a balanced approach among major powers while advancing Vietnam’s “bamboo diplomacy” strategy.

Analysts suggest that during his China visit, Mr. To Lam will explore opportunities to boost trade, attract investments, and push forward infrastructure projects like high-speed railways connecting China and Vietnamese port cities.

Moreover, the visit is seen as a testament to Mr. To Lam’s commitment to upholding the strategic foundation laid by Nguyen Phu Trong and enhancing cooperation with China in various areas.

Market access expansion for Vietnamese products, enhanced cooperation in politics, security, defense, and bilateral issues management are among the key focus areas for the discussions between Mr. To Lam and Chinese leaders.

The BBC highlighted the significant milestones in Vietnam-China relations since their establishment in 1950, underlining China as Vietnam’s largest trading partner and the growth in bilateral trade volume in recent times.

With Vietnam and China engaging in diverse trade exchanges, bilateral agreements are expected to cover rail connectivity, agricultural trade, and investments during Mr. To Lam’s visit to China.
