Truong Ngoc Ninh, an 81-year-old musician, commenced his musical journey by enlisting in the army at 16 and performing in the troupe of Military Region III. He then pursued six years of study at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, now known as the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
Ninh, who carried his guitar through the trials of the resistance war against America, found profound inspiration in the chaos of battle, shaping his musical compositions with enduring value.
His career evolved with over a decade of service as a composer, conductor, and art director for the Air Defense – Air Force, followed by a significant role at the Hanoi Department of Culture and Information. Notable works like Bien tau song Da and Rung Mien Tay gained recognition during this period.
The 1990s marked a pivotal era for Ninh as he delved into creating modern, melodious pieces like Thang Muoi Hanoi and Nua Vang Trang, solidifying his reputation in the music industry. He also oversaw the management and music production of popular boy bands.
Ninh’s music legacy includes around 500 songs performed by various artists, showcasing his diverse range from chamber music to light-hearted melodies.
His compositions often celebrated the progress of regions, industries, and communities, resonating with heartfelt emotions and thoughtful craftsmanship.
Among his notable creations, songs like Loi Ru Chia Doi supported public campaigns and earned accolades such as the State Award for Literature and Arts in 2007.
One of his renowned compositions, Bien Khat, shared a narrative of enduring love between a woman and a soldier, evoking poignant themes of sacrifice and reunion.
My Linh, an esteemed singer, brought Bien Khat to life on stage, captivating audiences with a heartfelt portrayal of the story.
The legacy of music continued within the family as My Anh, Linh’s daughter with musician Anh Quan, blossomed as a singer, showcasing her talent on international stages and receiving critical acclaim.
Despite his age, Truong Ngoc Ninh remains dedicated to composing new music, embodying a passion that transcends generations.
