Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Governor-elect of Kano State, has made his first appointment, naming Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa as his Chief Press Secretary. This was announced in a letter from the Chairman of the Gubernatorial Transition Committee. Yusuf stated that Bature was chosen due to his demonstrated competence, loyalty, commitment and hard work since 2019.
Bature is a highly experienced PR specialist, development communicator and stakeholder engagement expert with 19 years of experience in the media, international development and the private sector. He has won the Cambridge education award for investigative journalism in 2008 and has held various positions in national, international and bilateral organizations such as the British Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Save the Children International, Discovery Learning Alliance and the Rockefeller Foundation.
Bature has a Bachelor’s degree (B.A. Hons.) in Mass Communication from University of Maiduguri, a National Diploma in Mass Communication from Kaduna Polytechnic, a Higher National Diploma (HND) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health Education and Promotion. He also holds an MSc. in Social Work with specialization in Community Development from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH) Ogbomosho, Oyo State and an MPR from Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria. Additionally, he participated in an MSc program on Project Management at Robert Kennedy College, Zurich, Switzerland.
Prior to his appointment, Sunusi Bature was the Vice President of Nigeria operations for Kingston Organic PLC, a UK-based firm.
