BREAKING: Justice Hapsat Abdulrahaman, the first female chief judge of Adamawa, has been confirmed as the first female to serve in the judiciary of the country. Abdulrahaman, who is from the Adamawa state, was elected to the position in a secret ballot in late 2018. She will replace the retiring Justice Ayo Okeke, who was appointed to the post in 2017.

Justice Hapsat Abdulrahaman, who is the first female chief Justice of Adamawa State, was confirmed today by the Adamawa State House of Assembly.

The confirmation of the first female chief Justice (CJ) and two others followed the consideration of a letter forwarded to the assembly by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and read by the Speaker of the assembly, Aminu Iya Abbas, during Tuesday’s sitting.

Governor Fintiri had requested the assembly to confirm the trio as recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

After the letter was presented, Deputy Speaker Pwamwakeno Mackondo moved a motion for the confirmation as requested.

During the consideration, the members representing Numan, Verre, Guyuk and Demsa commended Governor Fintiri for forwarding the names of the top judicial officers for confirmation.

Thereafter, the Speaker, who presided over the sitting, directed the clerk to communicate the resolution of the assembly to the governor for further action.

The two other judicial heads confirmed were Ibrahim Wakili Sudi as Grand Khadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal and Audu James Balami as the President of the Customary Court of Appeal.
