The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released naira notes to banks and directed them to open for operations on Saturdays and Sundays. Dr. Isa AbdulMumin, Acting Director of the CBN’s Corporate Communications Department, confirmed this in Abuja on Friday. He stated that a substantial amount of money in various denominations had been received by the commercial banks for circulation to their customers. Additionally, the CBN has ordered all banks to load their ATMs and conduct physical operations in the banking halls over the weekends. Governor Godwin Emefiele will be personally leading teams to monitor the level of compliance by the banks in various locations across the country. AbdulMumin urged Nigerians to be patient, as the current situation should improve with the injection of more banknotes into circulation.
