CBN Requires Banks to Offer Weekend Banking Services

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has confirmed the distribution of banknotes from its vaults to commercial banks across the country, and has also mandated all commercial banks to open for business on Saturdays and Sundays. This directive is part of a coordinated effort to facilitate the circulation of banknotes of various denominations.

Dr. Isa AbdulMumin, Acting Director of the CBN’s Corporate Communications Department, noted that a substantial amount of money in various denominations had been sent to the commercial banks for onward distribution to their customers. He also stated that the CBN had instructed all banks to fill their Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and conduct physical operations in the banking halls over the weekends.

Additionally, Governor Godwin Emefiele of the Central Bank of Nigeria will be leading teams to monitor the level of compliance by the banks in various locations throughout the country.
