Dino Melaye Calls for Removal of INEC Chairman Yakubu

Senator Dino Melaye, a spokesperson for the Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, has strongly criticized the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu. On Saturday, Melaye took to Twitter to demand Yakubu’s resignation. This comes after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called for an investigation into Yakubu for allegedly rigging the presidential election. The PDP accused INEC of violating the Electoral Act and manipulating the results of the February 25th election. In response, Yakubu’s Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, challenged the PDP to prove their claims in court and questioned why they did not provide evidence to back up their allegations. However, Melaye was not satisfied and maintained that Yakubu must go, claiming that he “superintended over a criminal enterprise”. He tweeted, “Prof Mahmud Yakubu must resign. Such level of criminal audacity & impunity bastardizes the rule of law and diminished him as a referee who scored a goal in a match. Mahmood must goooo.”
