Country music legend Dolly Parton is adored by the masses. With a plethora of country and pop classics to her name, the singer-songwriter also has a list of credits outside of music which includes her projects in film, television, books, and her Dollywood theme park in Tennessee.
Known for her gentle spirit and kind persona, Parton recently put up some words of inspiration that her fans and followers needed to hear during this time of crisis with the coronavirus epidemic.
Parton’s ‘ministry’ expands
Parton recently joined with several artists in the Christian music genre, including the Australian band For King & Country with their single God Only Knows, Christian rock singer Zach Williams with There Was Jesus, and DJ duo Galantis with Faith. She performed with For King & Country as well as Williams for the Country Music Awards in November.
“I’ve just felt like God was calling me into that,” Parton told People of her venture into Christian music. “I’ve always felt like my music was more my ministry than a job. I just feel that this day and time, we need more people that are in a position to help to try to do something, if they can, to brighten the world a little bit. That’s what I’m hoping to do now.”
Parton shared her gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate on faith-based songs and expand her repertoire into music that’s spiritually focused.
“I felt really blessed because I had decided just in the last few months that I was going to try to do more faith-based things or at least more uplifting music,” the country legend said in November. “I’ve got three faith-based songs out now, which I feel very good about. Whether you believe in God or not, we need to believe in something bigger and better than what’s going on because we’re not doing too hot. We need to try to do a little better.”
Parton pays tribute to a friend
On March 20, country music icon Kenny Rogers passed away while in hospice care at his home in Atlanta. Parton and Rogers had collaborated on past projects and were very close friends. She paid tribute to Rogers on Saturday via social media.
“You never know how much you love somebody until they’re gone,” she captioned the tweet. “I’ve had so many wonderful years and wonderful times with my friend Kenny, but above all the music and the success I loved him as a wonderful man and a true friend.”
In an emotional video she included in the post, Parton held a pic of herself with Rogers and spoke of the loss she felt. “We all know that Kenny is in a better place than we are today, but I’m sure he’s going to be talking to God sometime today,” she said in the video. “He’s going to be asking Him to spread some light on the darkness that’s going on here. I loved Kenny with all my heart. My heart is broken, a big old chunk of it has gone with him today.”
Parton’s uplifting post
The singing legend recently took to Instagram to share some hopeful words she’s been quoted on saying in the past, this time in light of the current health crisis that’s hit the country. “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain 💕” Parton wrote alongside a pic of herself with her guitar against a smoky background.
The simple yet profound sentence resonated with her followers, who responded with their appreciation for the country star’s words.
“We all need some Dolly wisdom right now,” one fan wrote with a rainbow emoji. “Needed to hear this. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️” another user posted.
“Oh dolly… you get it.” a follower commented.” “DOLLY I LOVE YOU,” one fan gushed.
