Femi Falana Highlights Benefits of 2023 Elections for Non-Wealthy Candidates in Nigeria

Femi Falana, SAN, a human rights lawyer, has highlighted the positive changes that have come from the 2023 elections. He believes that the myth of political structure has been broken, as people have shown that they are the structure. Additionally, young people have demonstrated that they will determine the future of the country, and it is no longer necessary to be wealthy to run for office. Furthermore, many governors lost their seats in the election, and sitting governors and presidents were unable to win their states for their political parties. Falana also noted that the use of BVAS for accreditation has improved the process. He expressed his disappointment in INEC’s inability to upload results to their central server electronically in real-time, but he is hopeful that after postponing the governorship and state assembly elections by one week, INEC will not make any more excuses.
