Former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose Announces Departure from Partisan Politics

Ayo Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State, has declared his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and all partisan politics. He made this announcement during an interview on ARISE TV on Wednesday, March 1. In his statement, Fayose said: “From today, I am stepping away from the PDP. I had issued a warning on my Twitter handle in December or January that the PDP should resolve this problem or it would consume the party. I was invited by His Excellency Atiku Abubakar to a hotel in Lagos, where I told him of four demands made of him. One was that he was 76 last year and the G-5 said he was already a candidate and couldn’t abort a child that had been born. I suggested that he should tell the Southerners that he would spend four years in office so it wouldn’t look like the North would have eight to eight years back-to-back as Buhari is leaving and representing the North regardless of the party. They told His Excellency to make his official announcement, not to hand it over to any member of the G-5. That he would spend four years in office and at that time he would be 80 years old. All the people surrounding him disagreed; they said ‘when he becomes President he will say it’. Who does that?”
