Grandmother Arrested for Allegedly Burning Son, Daughter-in-Law, and Grandchild to Death in Ondo State, Nigeria

Lforiti Oloro, a grandmother from Apomu community in Akure, Ondo State, has revealed the reasons behind her arrest for allegedly setting her son’s family members on fire. According to a police source, the suspect expressed regret for her actions and claimed that she had intended to kill her daughter-in-law, Racheal, not her son, Victor Oloro and grandchildren, Toluwani and Blessing. She said that she was retaliating against the ill-treatment she had received from her daughter-in-law, who had been starving her of food. The police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed that only the couple had died in the inferno, while the two grandchildren were injured but alive and receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre FMC, Owo. The old woman was also affected by the fire and is being treated at the same hospital. It is believed that the suspect had used dry palm fronds and a gallon of petrol kept by her son for a generator to set the house ablaze while the family was asleep at around 2 am.
