Josie Totah (Champions, Glee, Spider-Man: Homecoming) has been cast in the lead role of the Saved by the Bell revival series currently in development at NBC’s streamer Peacock, which is set to launch in April, according to Variety.

Totah will play Lexi, who is described as a beautiful, sharp-tongued cheerleader and the most popular girl at Bayside High, who is both admired and feared by her fellow students.

Elizabeth Berkley (Showgirls) and Mario Lopez (The X Factor) will reprise their iconic roles in the upcoming series. The cast also includes John Michael Higgins (Pitch Perfect) as the new principal of Bayside.

Tracy Wigfield (Great News) is attached to write and executive produce. Peter Egel and Franco Bario will serve as executive producers for the Universal Television project. Peacock is reportedly in talks with other cast members like Gosselaar to also return for the series, which seems likely considering the series’ official logline.

“When California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over-privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.”
