Kaduna LGA Chairman Implements Curfew Following Fatal Herdsmen Attack Resulting in 10 Deaths

The Kaduna State government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in four communities of the Zango-Kataf Local Government Area following a tragic attack that left 10 people and a police officer dead. Yabo Chris Ephraim, Special Assistant (Media) to the executive chairman of the Zangon Kataf Local Government Council, released a statement saying the curfew was put in place to allow soldiers to restore peace in the area.

According to The PUNCH, the incident occurred on Saturday night when terrorists suspected to be herdsmen attacked the LGA. This comes only 72 hours after a pastor’s son was shot dead and four others were abducted in the Karimbu-Kahugu community in Lere LGA of the state.

A source, who wished to remain anonymous, told The PUNCH that the trouble began earlier on Saturday afternoon when a misunderstanding arose between security operatives and a Fulani man at a checkpoint in Ungwan Wakili which led to a Fulani man and a police man being shot at the checkpoint. Later that evening, a group of youths who had gone fishing were attacked and one person was macheted to death by the retaliating Fulani terrorists.

The communities affected by the curfew are Ungwan Juju, Mabuhu, Ungwan Wakili, and Zango Urban. Another source, a resident who wished to remain anonymous, informed our correspondent that Angwan Wakili, Angwan Juju, and Mabuhu communities in Atyap chiefdom were under possible attack from the suspected Fulani militia.

The spokesman of the Kaduna Police Command, SP Mohammed Jalige, said he would confirm and provide details of the incident when contacted by our correspondent.
