Lionel Messi Targeted by Gunmen Following Attack on Business Owned by Wife's Family

On Thursday, March 2, unidentified gunmen attacked a supermarket in Lionel Messi’s hometown of Rosario, Argentina. Reports say 14 shots were fired at the doors of the store, “Unico”, which belongs to the family of Messi’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo. Fortunately, no one was injured in the attack, but there was significant damage to the shop. A threatening note was left at the scene, reading “Messi, we are waiting for you. Javkin is a drug dealer. He is not going to look after you.” Pablo Javkin is the mayor of Rosario and he has called for more resources to be given to the city to help protect its residents. At the time of the attack, Messi and his wife were in Paris for an awards ceremony where Messi was named The Best FIFA Men’s Player. In 2022, he led Argentina to their third World Cup title. No comments have been made by Messi or his wife in response to the attack.
