Meghan Markle’s Christmas Card Drama Has a Surprising ‘Star Wars’ Link

After Meghan Markle and Prince Harry unveiled their Christmas card back in December, people could not stop talking about it. The card featured their son, Archie, in front of the camera while Markle and Prince Harry smiled at him in the background.

While the photo seemed innocent enough to many fans, it did not take long before there was suddenly drama surrounding it. But unlike other drama concerning the royal family, this one has a surprising link to the famous Star Wars franchise. Read on below to find out how Star Wars could be involved with the Sussex family.

Meghan Markle was accused of photoshopping her face onto the card

The debacle surrounding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Christmas card started when the Daily Mail published a report titled “Was Meghan Markle’s face PHOTOSHOPPED onto Christmas e-card?” In the article, the news outlet published the photo from the card where Prince Harry’s face was blurry but Markle’s face was a lot clearer.

A photographer spoke to the Daily Mail and analyzed the photo, saying: “Harry and Meghan are parallel, so if one is in focus, the other would be. They are side by side – it’s not like he’s further forward.”

Ultimately, the photographer came to the conclusion that “[Markle’s] face has either been superimposed or enhanced considerably.”

Meghan Markle’s photographer came to her defense

These accusations did not sit well with Janina Gavankar, Markle’s longtime friend who is also an actress. Gavankar revealed that she was the photographer who took the Sussexes’ Christmas photo. However, Gavankar denied that there was any Photoshopping done on Markle’s face. In fact, Gavankar claimed that the Daily Mail actually fixed up the photo themselves in order to further their “campaign” against Markle, and she even posted a non-edited photo to prove it.

“Proud to have taken the Christmas photo for one of my best friends and her family,” Gavankar wrote on her Instagram account. “Here’s the original that was sent out (cropped to fit IG)….and to The Mail, I see your campaign against my friend continues. Nice photoshop of my non-photoshopped image. Now may we all get back to the spirit of Christmas and not the spirit of maliciousness.”

Janina Gavankar has often defended Markle and Prince Harry

This is not the first time that Gavankar spoke out to defend her royal friends against the press.

Earlier this year, in response to all the negative reports that Markle was facing, Gavankar shared with CBS: “She doesn’t read the bad or the good because she knows the metrics that you have for your own life cannot be based on a headline that somebody else wrote. But the rumors are frustrating.”

Gavankar also gushed about how she believed Markle and Prince Harry would be great parents to Archie.

“He’s so good with kids,” Gavankar said. “Even when they were doing the family portrait after the wedding with everybody, he was on the floor, just playing with the kids… Meghan and I have talked about her being a mother for over a decade. She’s always wanted to be a mom. She’s going to be such a good mother.”

Janina Gavankar has worked on the ‘Star Wars’ franchise

Like Markle, Gavankar has also worked extensively in Hollywood. She has appeared in popular TV shows like True Blood, Arrow, and Sleepy Hollow. Many years ago, Gavankar portrayed the personification of Microsoft’s search engine, Ms. Dewey.

A lot of sci-fi fans might also not realize this, but Gavankar has worked on the Star Wars franchise as well. She has provided voices for the film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and she also lent her physical likeness to the main character (Iden Versio) of the story campaign for the video game, Star Wars: Battlefront II. Additionally, she was the narrator for the audiobook Star Wars Battlefront II: Inferno Squad.
