The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has raised concerns over the possibility of Nigerians facing a future where they could be purchasing petrol at N5000 per litre.
Reports indicate that filling stations under the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) have raised the price of petrol to over N850 per litre nationwide.
It has been stated that this increase was a result of a directive from the NNPC management to raise the fuel price from N568 to N855.
Benson Upah, the spokesperson for the NLC, expressed worries in an interview with Daily Trust that the fuel price might eventually climb to N5000 per litre.
He also mentioned that this recent price hike goes against the agreement previously made between the union and the federal government.
Upah stated, “We are planning to convene a meeting with the appropriate bodies of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to make decisions in the best interest of our members and the country as a whole.”
He further added that there is a prevailing sense of discontent among Nigerians due to the continuous price increases affecting the general populace.
