Ondo Police Report: Children Burned by Grandmother Survive

The Ondo State Police Command has revealed that the two children of the couple who were allegedly set on fire alongside their grandmother, Iforiti, in Ondo are still alive. The 75-year-old woman was reported to have set ablaze her son, Victor; his wife, Rachael; and their two children at Aponmu community in the Akure South Local Government Area of the state on Sunday morning. It was said that the grandmother committed the act around 2am while the victims were asleep. According to a source, when the woman was interrogated, she said she did it because the victims had not been feeding her. Reports had stated that all the victims had died at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where they were taken for treatment. However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, has declared that although the couple perished in the fire, their children survived and are now receiving medical attention. She also mentioned that the 75-year-old suspect was injured in the blaze. Mrs Odunlami said, “The first thing is to treat her (suspect) because she was affected by the inferno too. The two kids are safe and responding to treatment.”
