A 23-year-old trader, Bose Arowosegbe, was recently sentenced to three years in prison by an Ondo Magistrate Court in Akure for pouring hot water on her neighbor, Mr. Imole Oluwajenyo. On March 5th, 2023, at around 10am in Sijuade area, Arowosegbe and Oluwajenyo got into a heated argument which resulted in a physical altercation. After the scuffle, Arowosegbe went into the kitchen and poured hot boiled rice on the complainant in his room. This offense violated Section 355 of the Ondo State Criminal Code, Law of Ondo State, 2006. Oluwajenyo testified that he was left in pain in the hospital and none of Arowosegbe’s family members showed up to foot the bills. Magistrate O.L. Abu found the defendant guilty and ordered her to either pay immediate damages of N500,000 to the victim or serve three years in prison.
