Who Should Direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?

TOP TEN

1) Mike Flanagan (10%, 192 votes)

2) John Krasinski (8%, 160 votes)

3) Alex Garland (8%, 150 votes)

4) Gareth Edwards (6%, 123 votes)

5) Peter Ramsey (6%, 115 votes)

6) Travis Knight (5%, 87 votes)

7) Gore Verbinski (4%, 83 votes)

8) Ari Aster (4%, 77 votes)

9) Dan Trachtenberg (4%, 73 votes)

10) Robert Rodriguez (4%, 70 votes)

Unsurprisingly, Mike Flanagan and John Krasinski have landed in the top two spots. Flanagan has quickly become a household name particularly in the horror realm (which would fit well with the “scary sequences” teased for the sequel) thanks in large part to his hit The Haunting of Hill House series on Netflix and his recent feature Doctor Sleep based on The Shining sequel novel from Stephen King. Krasinski has proven himself as a solid director as well after his massive hit A Quiet Place debuted in 2018, earning over $340 million at the worldwide box office, with a follow-up on the way that appears to be a promising sequel. Alex Garland picked up an Oscar nomination for his Ex Machina screenplay before taking on the mind-bending sci-fi psychological horror movie Annihilation starring Natalie Portman and could have an interesting take on Doctor Strange’s newest adventure.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is being described as the first horror film in the MCU with Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch returning as the titular sorcerer supreme and Elizabeth Olsen also appearing as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. The film will again be directed by Scott Derrickson with The Turning scribe Jade Bartlett set to pen the screenplay.

Feige also revealed that Tom Hiddleston’s forthcoming Disney+ series Loki will connect with the Doctor Strange sequel, though he did not confirm if Hiddleston will be appearing in the movie. Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch recently appeared in this year’s highest-grossing film of all time, Avengers: Endgame, where they were both last seen attending Tony Stark’s funeral. Loki also appeared in Endgame and was last seen after the events of the Avengers’ first battle in New York, where he escapes with the Tesseract cube.

The sequel is scheduled to debut on May 7, 2021.
