Pope Francis Hospitalized for Respiratory Infection, Thursday Appointments Cancelled

On Wednesday, the Vatican announced that due to Pope Francis’ hospitalization for previously scheduled health checks, his Thursday appointments have been canceled. The pontiff, who recently celebrated 10 years as head of the Catholic Church, had been seen grimacing as he was helped into his “popemobile” earlier in the day. Tests have since revealed that he has a respiratory infection, though it has been confirmed that he does not have COVID-19. Pope Francis suffers from diverticulitis and has had an operation at the Gemelli hospital in 2021 to remove part of his colon. He has also experienced knee problems and uses either a cane or a wheelchair for his public appearances. The Vatican expressed gratitude for the messages of support and prayers that have been sent to Pope Francis.
