Russell Crowe Mob Thriller American Son Moves to Paramount

According to Deadline, Academy-Award winner Russell Crowe’s mob thriller American Son, which was previously set up at Sony, has moved to Paramount.

The thriller, per the trade, is based on Jacques Audiard’s French film, A Prophet, that won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and earned an Academy Award nomination for foreign language film in 2010, and “follows a man who builds a multiracial crime syndicate after falling under the control of a mobster, played by Crowe. He takes down his mentor, and earns a spot alongside the Italian and Russian mafias.”

Andrew “Rapman” Onwubolu will direct from a script written by Dennis Lehane. The pic will be produced by Neal H. Mortiz and Toby Jaffe through Original Film.

Crowe was recently seen in The Loudest Voice TV mini-series in which he played Roger Ailes, and True History of the Kelly Gang. He will next be seen in Unhinged from director Derrick Borte and The Georgetown Project, from directors M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller.
