Vice President-Elect, Kashim Shettima, has declared that the recently concluded 2023 presidential election was the most free, fair, and credible in Nigeria’s history. During an interview with BBC Hausa, Shettima urged the opposition to accept defeat for the sake of the nation. He also noted that those who are calling for the election’s cancellation have yet to provide evidence of any wrongdoing.
“To the best of my knowledge, last Saturday’s polls was the most free, fair, and credible Nigeria has ever had,” Shettima stated. “The elections were conducted accordingly and those calling for cancellation failed to prove where the polls went wrong.”
Shettima went on to point out that even when their own candidates lost, they did not complain. He cited Bola Tinubu’s defeat in his state and President Buhari’s loss in Katsina as examples. He also mentioned that in Abia, the APC candidate only received 8,914 votes compared to Labour Party’s 327,995.
“So let them accept defeat, accept their fate,” Shettima concluded. “What we need now is to come together and develop our nation. I’m sure former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi wish well for this country, so let them accept defeat for the development of our country.”
