The High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has handed down a sentence of death by hanging to Promise Thompson for armed robbery and child theft. On October 25, 2018, Thompson and his accomplice, Beatrice Ogbunka, committed the crimes in Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The prosecution was able to prove that Thompson had taken the infant to Abia State and sold him to a syndicate. Beatrice was granted bail by the police but ran away.
Justice Sika Henry-Aprioku also sentenced Queen Chisom Lucky to seven years imprisonment and her husband, Mr. Lucky, to ten years for child theft. They had bought the child from Thompson and sold him off afterward.
