According to The PUNCH, Niyi Adebanjo, a 40-year-old man, has killed his own 35-year-old wife, Toyin. The incident occurred in Ibadan, Oyo State on Monday night, February 20, 2023. It is believed that the couple had been arguing over an unknown issue in their apartment at the Fodasis area, Ring road.
Toyin’s mother, Iyabo Akinbode, revealed that her daughter had been subjected to domestic violence for a long time without her family’s knowledge. She also said that Toyin had called her two days before her death complaining of a headache and that she had gone to see her daughter on Monday. However, when the condition worsened, she called Adebanjo who told her to take Toyin to a nearby chemist. Instead, she took her to The Light hospital at Bolumole, Challenge. Adebanjo only showed up when Toyin had passed away.
Adebanjo confirmed that he and Toyin had an argument in 2018 over her infidelity which was resolved with the help of his elder brothers from Lagos. He denied beating her again and claimed that the allegations against him were false. The case has been reported at Orita Police Station and Toyin has since been buried at a private cemetery, Oke Itunu in Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state. The Oyo Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, could not be reached for comment.
