Tems Criticized for Wearing Dress With Built-In View-Blocking Panel at the Oscars

At the 95th Annual Acadia Awards held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, US, international sensation Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, was a standout on the red carpet. She wore a white dress and matching headpiece from Lever Couture SS23. Though she was nominated for the Best Original Song for her collaboration with American singer Rihanna and others on ‘Lift Me Up’, they unfortunately did not win.

Tems’ outfit has been trending on all social media platforms, but not for the right reasons. Many have criticized her for being insensitive to those sitting behind her, as the headpiece was said to obstruct their view. Comments such as “What in the name of fashion is this? Is that why she’s trending for the wrong reason? Cos people sitting behind would be affected” and “Beautiful but please it’s too much… imagine using your dress to obstruct people’s view” have been made. Others have said that while the dress was beautiful, it was not suitable for the occasion and that she should have been more considerate of other people’s view.
