Kacey Musgraves has come up with a unique way to support Nashville tornado relief efforts. After tornadoes devastated Tennessee city on March 3, the country singer announced she’d be selling some of her old performance outfits to benefit those affected by the disaster.
Kacey Musgraves announced ‘a major closet sale’
Initially, the “Dime Store Cowgirl” singer said she was going to be selling off some of her previously worn looks via Stage to Closet to benefit Tennessee urban forest preservation.
“I’m having a MAJOR CLOSET SALE TONIGHT @stagetocloset,” she wrote on Instagram. “Sooo many of my everyday clothes, shoes, accessories, and performance looks you’ve seen (like this vintage 2 piece set I’m wearing here) are up for grabs and proceeds will help benefit Tennessee urban forest preservation. As Nashville grows, all the animal homes and woodlands keep getting cut away and I want to help preserve that beauty (and clean air!) in my own community. Head to @stagetocloset for all the deets! Proceeds will go to Nashville tornado relief
Musgraves originally intended the proceeds of her sale to go to an environmental cause, but after the tornadoes flattened buildings and killed two dozen people in Nashville early Tuesday morning, she announced a change of plans.
“Heartbroken for East Nashville,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “I lived on this side of town (in this neighborhood until recently) for years. Many friends are severely affected. Thankful to be ok and thinking of those who aren’t.”
“Proceeds of the closet sale I announced yesterday were going to go to TN forest preservation and while that is still important to me, the Nashville tornado relief efforts need help first,” she added. “The sale is still going on today and more things are being added if you want to help.”
You can check out the what Musgraves is selling on Stage to Closet’s official Instagram. Items include a sparkly spaghetti-strap minidress, a burnt-orange Madewell turtleneck, and a floral Ulla Johnson dress.
She’s not the only star who is helping out
Musgraves is far from the only star who is stepping up to help Nashville recover from the disaster.
Dierks Bentley tweeted that he was donating to the Middle Tennessee Emergency Response Fund after sharing that his long-time drummer Steve Misamore had lost his home in the disaster. Chris Stapleton urged his fans to donate “what you can” to the emergency response fund, while Faith Hill also shared information about how to help those affected.
Johnny Van Zandt of Lynyrd Skynyrd also donated $10,000 to recovery efforts. Chris Young made a $50,000 donation.
“My heart goes out to everyone who lost friends or family last night,” Young tweeted. It’s devastating to see photos this morning of the city I call home.” A March 9 benefit concert featuring Mitchell Tenpenny, Jessie James Decker, the Band Camino, and others is already sold out.
Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes went out to help with clean up and recovery. She posted a photo on Instagram of her dirty hands with the caption, “I love this community so much. I don’t know what else to say, really. Everyone is out here today helping with each other and it’s really moving.”
Many others reflected on the devastation the city faced. “Thinking about my home and family in Nashville and how fortunate I am that my place and loved ones have remained safe in these deadly tornados,” Miley Cyrus wrote on Instagram. “My heart is broken for my home state. So much loss and damage. We are #NashvilleStrong and will rebuild together!”
