Reports have emerged that the Electoral Officer and Returning Officer for the Zamfara State Governorship Election in Maradun Local Government Area have been abducted. According to Daily Trust, the hometown of Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress is located in the area. The officials were on their way to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Gusau, the state capital, to submit the results of the election when they were intercepted and taken away to an unknown location. INEC’s spokesperson, Muktari Janyau, has confirmed that the incident has been reported to the police. Results from 9 out of 14 local government areas have already been announced, with the opposition PDP leading in seven of them.
