Zoë Kravitz Talks ‘High Fidelity,’ Training as Catwoman on ‘Ellen’

Zoë Kravitz already had a glowing 2019; among other things, the actress was recently nominated for the Screen Actors’ Guild award for Best Ensemble as part of the cast of Big Little Lies. But she still has quite a year ahead of her, taking on a lead role in the new Hulu series adaptation of High Fidelity as well as the iconic role of Catwoman in the upcoming DC film The Batman.

Kravitz hit Ellen Monday to discuss her year ahead. She told the host that she will begin shooting on The Batman in London this week, but she’s already hard at work training for her role. “It’s very physical. I come home just limping every day. It’s actually kind of pathetic,” she said.

Ellen congratulated Kravitz on her wedding to actor Karl Glusman, and asked her about a recent stage appearance with the actress’ father, rock star Lenny Kravitz, during which Zoë played the tambourine during “Let Love Rule” — just as her mother used to do.

And Ellen couldn’t resist asking about Kravitz’s stepdad, Jason Momoa, who she presented an award with at the Golden Globes. During one of the most bizarre moments of the night, the camera cut to Momoa in the audience with his jacket off, showing off his very large arms for all to see.

“He did the same thing at our wedding, where he had a tank top under the jacket,” Kravitz explained. “But as you can see in the photo, my mother was cold, which is why he took his jacket off. So I think that was pretty sweet, actually.”

“That is sweet and thoughtful for everyone in the room to look at that, too,” quipped Ellen.

Kravitz also pumped her new show, High Fidelity, which premieres February 14th and stars the actress as a gender-flipped version of the lead from Nick Hornby’s original novel and the 2000 feature film starring John Cusack. The new series is set at a record story in gentrifying Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and will follow Kravitz’s character as she looks back on her “top five heartbreaks” and tries to figure out what went wrong.
