Lewandowski Joins Ronaldo in Exclusive Champions League Milestone

Cristiano Ronaldo feat matched by Robert Lewandowski as Barcelona star hits Champions League goals milestone image

Robert Lewandowski mirrored Cristiano Ronaldo’s achievements with his standout performance during Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League victory over Young Boys.

After their unexpected 4-2 defeat to Osasuna in La Liga, Hansi Flick’s team bounced back with a decisive 5-0 win against the Swiss side on Tuesday, marking their first points in the league phase for the 2024/25 season.

Lewandowski kicked off the scoring just eight minutes into the match, followed by goals from Raphinha and Inigo Martinez within a three-minute span before halftime.

He added another goal early in the second half, and an own goal by Mohamed Ali Camara further added to Young Boys’ woes during their visit to Catalonia.

Through this performance, Lewandowski also equaled a record held by the competition’s leading all-time scorer.

Record held by Cristiano Ronaldo matched by Lewandowski

With his two goals against Young Boys, Lewandowski has reached 96 career goals in the Champions League, with an impressive 51 scored since turning 30. The only other player with more than 50 Champions League goals after the age of 30 is Ronaldo, who scored 68 times from that birthday onwards.

Lewandowski is now aiming to become only the third player in history to score 100 goals in the Champions League, needing just four more to reach this milestone.

Barcelona’s next Champions League match will be against Bayern Munich on October 23, which takes place just three days before their highly anticipated El Clasico clash with reigning Spanish and European champions Real Madrid.
