Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell are cast in anyone but you. will gluck, friend’s director, williams, and her team want to make sure the two characters are as happy as possible while they’re playing nice.
In January 2023, it was reported that Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell had been cast in the romantic comedy “Anyone But You.” Will Gluck, the director of “Friends with Benefits,” had signed on to helm the R-rated film. It’s a modern retelling of the Shakespearean play “Much Ado About Nothing,” with Sweeney and Powell’s characters being bitter enemies who begrudgingly act like they’re a happy couple at a wedding. And guess what happens while they’re playing nice?
When the casting news broke, Gigi Paris celebrated her boyfriend’s new big gig on Instagram, reacting to the news with three party popper emoji. And because part of the movie was being filmed in the Australian city, Powell joked, “Sydney in Sydney,” adding three fire emoji. He’d previously appeared in the rom-com “Set It Up,” in which Zoey Deutch played his romantic lead. Sweeney, however, was inexperienced with the genre. Mere days before fans learned that this was about to change, the actor told British GQ, “I grew up loving rom-coms.” However, she admitted that she was afraid of the comedy genre in general until she filmed “The White Lotus,” which turned her into a fan of being funny.
Apparently, having someone fall in love with him on screen is an unusual experience for Powell. “I’ve played a lot of womanizers and clueless a**holes, so I’m hoping there’s not a whole lot of common DNA between the characters I’ve played and me,” he told Glamour.
