BUZZ: Met Gala Ticket Prices Criticized by Industry Insiders as Exceeding $50,000 Per Person

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual gala, hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, is an exclusive event that has seen its ticket prices raised from $30,000 to $50,000 per person. This increase has caused some of the museum’s donors to opt out of the event. “These people are already donating so much, to then ask for that amount is a lot,” says a source. However, another source believes that for every person who decides not to go, 20 people will line up behind them and beg to come.

This year’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”, is more specific than past Met Gala themes such as “Camp”, “In America”, “Heavenly Bodies” and “Punk”. This has caused some fashion designers to pass on the event as they don’t want to have to adhere to the theme. “Chanel themes are so iconic,” says a source. “Other brands have their own identity. What are they going to do?” However, another source believes that designers can just throw together something black and white and sparkly.

If a designer RSVPs no to the Met Gala, they stand the chance of missing out in the future. “If you miss one, you might not be invited back,” says a source. After some speculation, Page Six hears Kim Kardashian will be attending this year’s fashion fete. Other hosts include Penélope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel and Roger Federer.
