Katee Sackhoff's Toddler's Adoration of Baby Yoda From "The Mandalorian"

Everyone is captivated by Baby Yoda, also known as Grogu, the small alien creature being raised by the main character of “The Mandalorian”, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal). This includes Katee Sackhoff’s toddler daughter, who plays Bo-Katan on the show. Sackhoff spoke to POPSUGAR about her daughter’s admiration for Grogu, her experience working with Pascal, and Bo-Katan’s journey in season three.

Sackhoff and her husband, Robin Gadsby, have a 15-month-old daughter named Ginevra Grace. Sackhoff plans to show her the first Star Wars movie when she is old enough, but in the meantime, she has already become obsessed with Baby Yoda. Sackhoff gave her a Star Wars pop-up book and a pillow with a repeating pattern of characters. She loves to identify them and hug her pillow. Sackhoff says, “I’m starting her young. She’s a little blue-eyed, strawberry-blond-haired girl that’s obsessed with Darth Maul. It’s great.”

Sackhoff also loves Grogu and filming scenes with him. She says that the puppeteers are incredibly gifted and bring out real emotion from the puppet. She also praises Pascal, saying that the days she gets to work with him are very special. Sackhoff adds that everyone on set knows what each person is bringing to the show, so it is a true collaboration.

Bo-Katan and Din are brought together by Grogu, and Sackhoff says Bo-Katan knows he is important and won’t let him get hurt. In episode two, Grogu goes to Bo-Katan for help after Din is captured on Mandalore. Sackhoff believes this is partially because Bo-Katan feels guilty for telling Din to travel there in the first place.

This season, Bo-Katan has nothing to lose and joins the Children of the Watch with Din, a group she previously criticized as a cult. Sackhoff rejects the idea that Bo-Katan didn’t mean to join them; she says Bo-Katan is always calculated and was just looking for somewhere to go after her home was destroyed.

New episodes of “The Mandalorian” stream Wednesdays on Disney+.
