Based on William Goldman’s book of the same name, the film uses the framework of a grandfather telling his sick grandson the story of Buttercup (Robin Wright), a beautiful young woman, and Westley (Cary Elwes), a farmhand, who fall in love. After Westley is presumed dead after a pirate attack, Buttercup finds herself betrothed to a sinister prince in the mythical kingdom of Florin.
