In 2003, Vanessa Trump and Donald Trump Jr. first encountered each other at an event. Donald Trump had attempted to set them up, but it didn’t quite work out. Vanessa recounted the story to The New York Times in 2006, saying that Donald had approached her during the fashion show and introduced her to his son. However, when Donald came back to her during intermission, he didn’t seem to recognize her.
After the fashion show, Vanessa and Don Jr. ran into each other again at a party. Neither of them remembered their initial meeting, but Vanessa eventually realized that Don Jr. was the one with the “retarded dad.” They talked for an hour and eventually began dating.
