The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, confirmed the tragic news of the death of Ezeogo Igboke Ewa, the Chairman of the Ezza North Traditional Rulers Council, who was shot dead by suspected political thugs on Monday night. The deceased’s son informed the Governor of the incident from his hideout, and said that the gunmen were targeting his children. In response to this, Umahi sent the police, the Army and the men from the Department of State Services to take over their compound and rescue them. The Governor believes that the killing of the monarch may have been politically motivated, and expressed his sorrow that a man so well respected and above 80 years of age was killed for political reasons. He urged the security agents to do their duty and arrest any further killings in the state. The police spokesperson in the state, SP Onome Onovwakpayeya, also confirmed that an investigation has been launched to find the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
