INEC Responds to Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi's Request for Tribunal to Invalidate Bola Tinubu's Election Victory

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declined to comment on the petitions filed by presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) seeking to nullify the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 presidential election. Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, said in a statement to The Punch on Tuesday that the commission does not comment on cases filed by political parties and their candidates. Atiku and Obi had argued that Tinubu’s election was invalid by reason of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, and alleged that there was rigging in 11 states. They also urged the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja to void Tinubu’s emergence as President-elect and withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to him by INEC.
