Liana Ramírez: actor, author, and stunt double extraordinaire

Do you hate horror movies? So did Liana Ramírez — until she took on the role of Casey in the upcoming horror film, Star Light. Ramírez is best known for her role as Roxy/Robo-Roxy, the corrupt version of the Yellow Ranger in Nickelodeon’s Power Rangers Beast Morphers. The series is currently nominated for a 2020 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award for Favorite Kids TV Show.

Ramírez isn’t just a talented actor. In Sept. 2019, Ramírez became a self-published author. Her first book, The Secrets Within Me, tells the story of 17-year-old Magi Davis, who uncovers the secrets her family has been hiding to protect her from mythological forces.

Ramírez says she fell in love with writing in fifth grade when she was asked to produce a short story. Ramírez couldn’t believe she could create something as unique as fiction. She tapped into her favorite fictional works for inspiration, including Star Wars and the Harry Potter seriestocome up with a tale about a character she likened to a female Indiana Jones. That passion for writing is still alive and well in Ramírez today.

When she’s not writing or acting, Ramírez loves taking on new challenges. She recently started doing stunt double work, which she is excited to do more of. In 2019, she told Just Jared Jr. that if she weren’t an actor, she’d be a screenwriter or a stunt double. It looks like her dreams are coming true!

Ramírez’s journey to becoming a scream queen

Ramírez never thought she would be in a horror movie, let alone one produced by the executive producer of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jeffrey Allard. Despite Ramírez’s difficulty watching the genre, she explained how her fear made her a better part for the film: “I think whenever you don’t like [horror movies], your reactions are very realistic.”

Ramírez felt a special connection to her character in Star Light, Casey. That connection and her diligent analysis of the script allowed Ramírez to impress casting directors in auditions.

No stranger to blood, guts, and gore, Allard has produced countless horror movies including The Violent Kind and The Night Watchmen — a movie with the tagline “Let’s go kill some dead people.” Star Light was no different in terms of gore. Ramírez discussed being “drenched” in blood for many scenes in the movie.

Despite her former dislike for the horror genre, Ramírez had a blast working on Star Light, saying it was her “favorite project she has ever been a part of.” Thanks to the cast and crew, Ramírez picked up a few things along the way and hopes to star in more horror movies in the future.

“Scream queen” Taylor-Compton shared a lot of scenes with Ramírez and gave her some of the best advice on set. Despite this being Ramírez’s first horror movie, Taylor-Compton said: “don’t take yourself too seriously.” Ramírez recalled how much fun the horror movie vet would have on set, which gave her permission to have fun as well.

What to expect from ‘Star Light’

Star Light tells the story of a teen’s life that gets turned upside down when he helps a world-famous pop star on the run from her violent pursuers.

“It’s a really fun movie to watch,” Ramírez says. There’s banter between the characters and, of course, horror. Ramírez also warned us about a heart-wrenching scene that’s tough to watch, even for her.

Star Light does not have an official release date, but Ramírez shared that the film will be released later this year.

The actor has plenty in the works for the future. While she couldn’t tell us any specifics, she did mention a guest spot on The Goldbergs. When asked about future books, Ramírez said she would be writing “forever and ever.” While she doesn’t have anything specific lined up, fans can expect another fictional work from this triple threat in the future.
