Makinde to Collaborate with President-Elect Tinubu

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that he will collaborate with President-elect Bola Tinubu when his government is inaugurated on May 29th. Makinde made this promise during an interview with TVC on Sunday, following his re-election victory in the March 18th gubernatorial election. He stated, “I will work with the President-elect. We will strive to ensure Nigeria is united and inclusive. We will work together to create value in our country.” The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had previously declared Makinde the winner of the election, having obtained 563,617 votes, while his closest rival, Sen. Teslim Folarin, received 251,230 votes and Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord came in third with 38,757 votes. Makinde is the last of the PDP G5 or Integrity Group to be elected. The other three members, Governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Samuel Ortom (Benue), all lost their senatorial bids, while Nyesom Wike (Rivers) did not run for any elective post.

Governorship elections were held in 28 of Nigeria’s 36 states on Saturday, with 11 serving governors seeking re-election and 17 outgoing governors reaching the end of their two-term limits. Eight states – Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun and Ondo – had their elections postponed due to court cases.
